In the aftermath of Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) disappointing countless progressives with his behavior, the discussion has turned to whether he should resign. I cannot pretend to understand what would possess a grown man, politician or otherwise, to send pictures of his junk to strangers via social media. But I do not think he should be required to resign because of it. At the same time, I do not find the act of sending the pictures nearly as problematic as what he did next.
Should Weiner Resign?

I have seen many progressives celebrating the recent news that The Daily Show with Jon Stewartbeat the entire Fox "News" prime time line up in the May Nielson ratings. I understand the urge to celebrate, and I do not begrudge anyone for doing so. It is indeed great to see people turning off Fox "News," and I hope this is just the beginning of a trend to do so. However, we should pause to remember that Stewart's show really isn't news either.
Christian Fundamentalism May Help Explain GOP Behavior

Not only do we not have to protect the environment, but we probably should not worry about creating jobs, educating our children, caring for our seniors, or...much of anything. Maybe this sheds some light on what the Republican controlled House has been doing.
My Take on Ed Schultz
Posted by vjack | 6/01/2011 | Media |
As I'm sure you've heard, MSNBC host Ed Schultz called Fox "News" contributor Laura Ingraham a "right-wing slut." He has since apologized and was suspended by MSNBC. I was surprised and disappointed to see some progressives actually defending Shultz and claiming that the suspension was a mistake. My take is a bit different.
In the interest of full disclosure, I've never been able to stand Shultz. And yet, I am reasonably confident that what I am about to say would apply to Maddow as well. I mention her because she's the only one left on MSNBC I can sometimes stomach.
