45,000 Americans die each year due to inadequate health care coverage, and the high rates at which private insurance companies deny treatment mean that there is no guarantee those of us with insurance will be able to use it when we need it. As we move toward the 2012 presidential election, supporters of President Obama are going to point to health care reform as a major accomplishment. While he does indeed deserve some credit, we must remember that the health care crisis is not over by a long shot.
Cost controls are inadequate, as there have been reports that health insurance premiums are continuing to rise. And we are still a long way from the universal health care which citizens of most industrialized nations enjoy.
