Yes, Reince Priebus Really is Someone's Name

Reince PriebusFriday was a big day for the Republican Party. The Republican National Committee (RNC) held their election for chairman, and the much beloved (by the left) Michael Steele is out. I will certainly miss him, and I know many progressives feel the same way. He was consistently entertaining and quite detrimental to the Republican Party. But the big news concerns Steele's successor.

You see, the RNC actually elected as their chair someone named Reince Priebus. Yes, that is really his name. As much as I was hoping to have a son just so I could name him Saxby Chambliss, I think I have a new goal. As for the RNC, I have to assume they are deliberately trying to get us to lower our guard by distracting us with such ridiculous leaders.

While I readily admit that it will take me months to get over the delight of the pundits having to say "Reince Priebus," there is another more serious bit of news to come out of this election. Not only is Reince Priebus (can we all agree to use his full name as much as possible, at least until I tire of it?) going to have his hands full with trying to unite fiscal conservatives and teabaggers, but some have interpreted the results as revealing the limits to Speaker Boehner's power.

According to Politico, Boehner was backing Maria Cino over Reince Priebus. That she lost seems to suggest that the RNC has a mind of its own and was not particularly impressed with Boehner's efforts to influence their vote.
