The Republican Plan is Working

Republican Tea PartyMembers of the Republican Tea Party have adopted a clever strategy to make certain that Obama will be a one term president. And it seems to be working. They seem to have discovered Obama's fatal flaw: a delusional obsession with compromise. The more they shift to the right, the more Obama willingly abandons the values on which he campaigned and moves with them. Unless this pattern reverses, Obama will have little support left in 2012. All the Republican Tea Party will have to do then is run a candidate who isn't so objectionable that voters show up just to defeat them.

We're still at war in Iraq, Gitmo is still open, DADT is still the law of the land, George W. Bush is still a free man despite having repeatedly admitted to authorizing war crimes, and now we seem poised to extend tax breaks to millionaires and billionaire. I am seeing many of those who were once vocal Obama supporters become disillusioned.

This strategy succeeded to some degree in the mid-term elections when Obama wasn't even the issue. In 2012, it could easily prevent his re-election. Is he capable of changing course? I'm not sure, but he is running out of time and still does not appear to grasp what his supporters want from him.
