Interesting election results are emerging. As everyone predicted, the Republican Tea Party took control of the House but not the Senate. This should make for even more effective obstructionism by their side in the next Congress. By making sure that the Democrats cannot accomplish anything, the Republican Tea Party can position themselves perfectly to take the Senate and White House in 2012.
And for progressives, the news is especially sad. We lost both Grayson and Feingold. Worse still, some of the pundits have apparently decided to interpret these losses as a sound rejection of progressive values by the American people. While I question this interpretation, it seems like it is going to be the chosen narrative.
In the coming weeks, there are going to be many attempts to interpret these election results and decipher what they mean for the future of progressives. Until I see evidence to the contrary, I am going to assume that voter turnout on the left had at least something to do with it.
