For many of us in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama, it is difficult to imagine that deep water drilling is resuming in the Gulf of Mexico. I understand that additional regulations have been put in place, but I am skeptical that they are going to be sufficient to prevent another disaster. Even more concerning, I have absolutely no confidence that the next disaster will be resolved any quicker than BP's massive oil spill. This seems like an awfully high price for us to pay while the oil companies get richer.
I also fear that the regulations adopted in the aftermath of BP's spill will be quietly stripped away once the Republican Tea Party takes power.
