End the National Day of Prayer

National Day of Prayer.jpgOne of the most important things we can do to protect both religion and government in the United States is enforce the establishment clause of our Constitution. Those seeking to rewrite history to make it seem as though America's founders wanted a Christian theocracy is not just dishonest; they are dangerous because they threaten both governmental neutrality and religious freedom.

One of the most egregious ongoing examples of our government violating the establishment clause can be found in the law establishing a National Day of Prayer and requiring whoever holds the office of president to issue an annual proclamation about it. It is time to ask our elected officials to end this practice and uphold our Constitution.

The freedom From Religion Foundation is sponsoring an online petition to ask President Obama and the state governors to end the unconstitutional National Day of Prayer. I hope you will join me in supporting this important effort and in helping to spread the word.
